New building workshop, Matzingen

Domestic wood dominates at the new works yard in Matzingen. The building was completed after a construction period of around one year and was officially inaugurated at the end of September 2019.
The project
The new, modern works yard provides the municipality of Matzingen with the necessary infrastructure to meet the high demands. Thanks to local wood and local craftsmanship, the added value remains in the region. The light-flooded rooms provide the employees with contemporary workplaces.
The construction
The entire workshop, including the supporting structure and all surfaces, is made of wood. The office section was built using prefabricated elements. The workshop is designed as a hall construction and is column-free. The floor slabs of the office section consist of horizontal glulam elements. The roof is designed as a box girder element. The roof in the workshop was also designed as a box girder element.
The challenge
Timbatec paid special attention to the visible wood surfaces. During the planning and construction work, it was always important to take into account that the mostly native wood was not clad or painted.

New factory yard with an exemplary function
First, Issue No. 01/21 – Natural materials, fine workmanship and lots of wood: Matzingen's new factory yard is more than just a functional infrastructure facility. With an eye for detail, Lilin Architekten have fitted the elongated new building into the village structure. A wooden building with a load-bearing effect - both statically and ideally. Das Magazin der Schweizer Baudokumentation, Issue No. 5/2020 - The new factory yard of the municipality of Matzingen TG keeps what the winning project in the competition promised. In the spring of 2017, the Zurich office of Lilin Architekten won the competition in a selective procedure.
