The project team with Timbatec Holzbauingenieure Schweiz AG, Atelier Soto Freiraum & Landschaft and Winfried Schneider Produktdesign has won the study contract for the Boostocksteg Spreitenbach project. Congratulations.

Bootstocksteg

The jury was impressed by the innovative and comprehensive approach of viewing the footbridge not just as a structure, but as the key to creating a new living space. Architecturally, the suspension footbridge with pylon and guy wires will make a strong statement in the center of Spreitenbach.

The Boostocksteg in Spreitenbach is part of a comprehensive project for the urban development of the municipality. The RES 2030 (Räumliche Entwicklungsstrategie Spreitenbach - Spreitenbach Spatial Development Strategy) emphasizes the importance of the Boostocksteg as a connecting element between the old village center and the supra-regional Tivoli shopping center. The surrounding high-rise buildings dominate the townscape, while the planned central park is intended to act as a green link between residential areas, the village center and the shopping center. The pedestrian footbridge between Boostockstrasse and Boostockweg was built in the early 1970s. In the meantime, the Boostocksteg is in need of considerable renovation.

The new Boostocksteg will cross the dividing Bahnhofstrasse and is designed as a gateway to the park. The plans include a spacious park with a variety of leisure facilities, play areas, recreational areas and natural habitats. This park not only serves as a meeting place and recreational space for the local population, but also contributes to ecological connectivity, biodiversity and a sustainable water balance.

The innovative concept of the footbridge aims to create a direct connection between the neighborhood square, the park and the new cycle route. The clear lines and the use of wood emphasize the transparency, openness and social safety of the structure. The Boostocksteg is designed as part of a structure of paths and squares, integrating it seamlessly into the overall urban development concept.

The neighborhood square at the beginning of the footbridge functions as a neighborhood meeting point and vantage point for the park. The design of the square incorporates pathways, water elements and tree planting to create an appealing environment. Sun terraces and a pond area are seen as a temporary test laboratory for future park design, with a focus on ecological aspects such as rainwater utilization and habitat creation for flora and fauna.

The construction of the Boostocksteg relies on wood as the main building material, which not only reduces the carbon footprint, but also makes an important contribution to reducing the impact on the surrounding area during the construction phase due to the speed of assembly. The ecological focus of the project also extends to the design of the park, with robust and climate-resistant tree species and diverse planting being taken into account.

Overall, the project aims to make Spreitenbach a liveable, sustainable and environmentally friendly place. The holistic planning takes into account not only urban planning aspects, but also ecological, social and economic aspects. By integrating wood as a renewable building material and creating green spaces, the Boostocksteg contributes to urban ecology, biodiversity and sustainability.
